Whats Sales Skills Should I Master to Crush my Goals?
The answer is it has nothing to do with your sales skills. It's not about mastering the discovery or leveling up your skills to fill the funnel. It has to do what you do when you are not in the office. You have to think of your role just like pro athletes do, it's a lifestyle. What an elite athlete does on or off the field or court matters just as much as what they do on game day and in practice. This is a huge contributor to being an average player vs an elite player. It takes a level of commitment and sacrifices most are not willing to commit to and this will play a huge role in performance. The lifestyle of being an elite seller is the same. It takes a level of commitment to becoming better as a person to excel in your role. This means investing in yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually. This is what is required if you want to be at the top of your game. Now if you could get lucky and get to the top occasionally but you are likely to burn out and it won't be suitable on the course of your career. Now let's look at some simple ways to start investing in yourself in these three key areas.
This one may sound simple enough but it actually requires a mental toughness that can be very challenging to muster. I'm a big believer in starting my day with exercise. I have found that it is more challenging to want to exercise at the end of a workday. My exercise routine has shifted over the years from spending time in the gym, to running and now I swim 2,500+ yards five days per week. They ket here is to try different things and find what works best for you. make it a habit and stick to your sc schedule. having a routine will make it much easier to just show up even when you are not in the mood. The other key element to investing in yourself physically is eating healthy which has no right answer no am I qualified to hand out nutrition plans. Seek out some help or ask the healthiest person you know what they are doing and try to get on a good clean healthy eating lifestyle. It's easy to get sucked into the new latest fab but found what works for you. When you find what works it shouldn't feel like work and it will feel sustainable.
Now I am not a doctor nor am I the one to give out mental advice but I can tell you what has worked in my own experience. Feel free to try some of these ideas or some of your own and see what makes a difference in your life. I would say the number one thing for me that has made the biggest impact is having a consistent mediation practice for ten-plus years. It can be scary to get started and it can be as simple as focusing on your breath for two to three mins when you start your day and throughout the day when you feel stressed. My practice has evolved over time and ad my lifestyle has changed now with three kids and a fourth on the way sitting for an extended period of time is usually unrealistic for me. I tend to mediate two there times per day for a shorter period of time. Another thing that is been a big help but I sometimes struggle to stay consistent with is journaling. There are a ton of different ways to journal and find what works best and give it a try, maybe you will have better luck than me. One last thing to warp the one is therapy, I'm a big advocate for therapy and dis is something that has helped me tremendously over the years.
There is a lot of cross-over between spiritual and mental for me. I'm not a very religious person but have found what I believe in and have made peace with that. I get a lot of spirituality through mediation, being outdoors and spending time with my family and loved ones. Maybe going to church is your thing and that is fantastic. Find what feels right to you and stick with it. Spirituality is a huge contributor to you being able to show up in your role as the best version of yourself.
I hope you find some of my own experiences helpful and they inspire you to find what works best for you to take investing in yourself seriously. I believe that being committed to these three areas of your life with maki a bigger impaicn. in your hitting your foals then stating the latest sales technique webinar. Not that leveling up your sales skill is not important but investing in yourself should be your first priority.
