[00:00:00] My name is Colin Mitchell and welcome to sales transformation, a daily podcast with the best moments from the most respected people in the sales world. The goal of this show is to give you a daily dose weekends included in 10 minutes or less to help transform the way you sell. I hope you enjoy today's episode.

[00:00:20] And now to David to tell you what you can expect in today's episode.

[00:00:29] Higher risk, higher reward, probably the best hold that fits Ethan Parker, switch to remote seller with the challenges of suddenly shifting to a different kind of selling. Ethan struggled and risked his money by going to Jason base training program today, Ethan's not only enjoying a new career, but he is also working alongside his new mentor.

[00:00:52] Join Colin and Ethan as they unpack this, unlike the story of his road to the outbound squad, only here at the latest episode of sales transformation. Uh, I'm curious. I mean, you're really passionate about, um, outbound sales. Um, obviously, you know, how did you get involved with outbound squad and, and, and, you know, what do you tell me a little bit about the work that you do there and some of your ideas around outbound, and then we're gonna lead into, you know, talking more about discovery and some of the issues that you see there.

[00:01:24] And, and, and if we have some time, we'll talk about demos too, cuz I know you had some ideas around, uh, some common mistakes folks are making there. Yeah. Yeah. Um, outbound. Squad's a funny story, man. Actually. So it's, it's funny for multiple reasons, but, um, the short is when I made that swap, when COVID happened to where I was like going complete, remote, selling all over zoom and all, like, there is no, I couldn't just show up and knock and like, it just, things were different.

[00:01:52] And so I knew that I needed a. I needed someone who had been doing this already, that could, that could get me up to speed faster. I didn't want to go learn it on my own and reinvent the wheel. I was like, surely there's gotta be, there's gotta be a mentor out there that that can help me speed up this process.

[00:02:06] And, uh, I was mostly looking at the prospecting standpoint of like, how do I, how do I maximize this in a, in a, in a complete remote world, as I felt pretty comfortable in the sales cycle, once we're engaged, it was, it was more so like, how do I generate these opportunities where. Uh, I can't, I can't just like show up and I can't take somebody to dinner and I can't go to this event.

[00:02:25] And so anyway, I found Jason through, through his content on LinkedIn and I reached out to him and back in the day he was running these boot camps. And, um, so I, uh, it it's funny because the offering was like, it was like 300 bucks to do a self-guided course, or it was like a thousand bucks to do this, like six week course where you got to meet with Jason twice a week.

[00:02:42] And I was like, well, I definitely wanna do that one. And my wife like pushed back a little bit and like not wanted me to spend the money. And I was like, I have so much thoughts here of what this can turn into, but like, number one, I'm gonna go in here. I'm gonna make a friend and like having this, connection's gonna take me somewhere.

[00:02:56] And um, so like I'm, I'm gonna spend this money. It'll be more, it'll be more than worth it in one way or the other. And so I did that went through the course and it was like the most profound training I had ever experienced. So like prospecting and how to do this in a like fully remote world and like incorporate all the tools.

[00:03:13] I was like, oh my God, that's so amazing. And, and, um, I hit, Jason was like, Hey man, um, You should have like an ongoing program, cuz like I don't wanna stop having these calls with you every week. It's like the best part of my week. I love all this energy from other reps on here. Like I love it. And uh, you know, I'd be willing to like, just, if you wanna charge me like monthly dude, I'd whatever I'd be.

[00:03:33] I'll be your first customer. And, and so that's like, you know, I think he was already thinking about it. I'm I gonna take credit for the idea he was already thinking about it, but I guess maybe I'd like to think I pushed him a little bit to get going on it. And um, so we, we launched um, well he launched outbound squad and then.

[00:03:47] I was the first customer there. And then I, uh, I sent him a email and pitched him on letting me come on board and help out. I just offered to, to help for free and, um, and get involved and lead some coaching calls and that kind of thing, and help scale the business a bit. And. And he was like, Hey man, I was kind of already thinking about this.

[00:04:07] I was thinking about reaching out to you and yeah, let's chat. And, and then, um, one thing led to the other and, and now it's, you know, a hundred reps in this program and gets some killer results every single week. The, you know, what we're doing there is, is just full funnel from prospecting, how to land the meeting, to running better discovery calls, demo, and better closing deals better.

[00:04:25] And it's just like, it's like getting your masters in sales is what we consider it. And it's very like high touch. You know, we're not trying to have 'em thousand folks in there. It's, you know, it's small, it's intimate. We know everyone really well. And, and it's, uh, it's just funny looking back on how that happened and, and, and where, where that came today.

[00:04:43] But, uh, Jason's been the most impactful mentor I've ever had in my entire life. And I'm, I'm fortunate to get to work alongside him every day now. Yeah. That's awesome, man.
