[00:00:00] My name is Colin Mitchell and welcome to sales transformation, a daily podcast with the best moments from the most respected people in the sales world. The goal of this show is to give you a daily dose weekends included in 10 minutes or less to help transform the way you sell. I hope you enjoy today's episode.

[00:00:20] And now to David to tell you what you can expect in today's episode.

[00:00:29] From selling drugs to help his mother, to helping other sellers sell better. This is the life that Ethan Parker, it seems like a journey from the dark side to delight, join calling. As he welcomes Ethan to another series, Bri talks about going through a turning point in his career and how this breakthrough paid this way to all sales.

[00:00:49] So tuned into another episode of sales transformation. All right. Welcome to another episode of sales transformation. Very excited today to have Ethan Parker on. I was recently on his show. So I know that we are gonna have a ton of fun. Uh, Ethan is the VP of revenue at alt sales, providing outsource sales development, and sales consulting to clients.

[00:01:13] Uh, he has also had. 10 years experience as an enterprise SAS seller, specifically focused on outbound sales, having personally closed deals for upwards of 40 million. Ethan, welcome to the show. How you doing? Doing well. Thanks for having me, man. Yeah, I'm excited to, to dig in here and, uh, switch seats and learn a little bit more about you.

[00:01:36] And then get into some of the topics that, uh, we planned out today, like 35 seconds ago. Um, cuz that's how we do it here. So Ethan, give us your sales story. Yeah, well, um, I got my first taste of sales to kind of add a little context. I, um, I grew. Little bit in the, in the hood around new Orleans, Louisiana.

[00:01:59] And, um, my first, uh, taste of sales was, was selling drugs to be quite transparent to help my help my, uh, mom and that's, uh, that's where, where it started and actually learned a lot from, from some of those folks. And you obviously, you get older, get educated, wanna get out of that type of environment and.

[00:02:17] Um, my first, like, you know, legit sales job was door to door sales. So I was, uh, I was selling Cutco, you know, vector marketing, a pretty well known, widespread, and was going door to door selling thousand dollars sets of knives. And, uh, I crushed it that summer that I, that I did that I made about 20 grand or so, and just like more than any.

[00:02:35] 1718 year old needs to have and sitting in their pocket, um, and develop some bad financial habits as a result of that. But that kind of, that kind of got me, um, started. And, um, and then I wanted to kinda do things I was more passionate about. So, you know, I went into like the health and wellness realm. I have a big kind of background in fitness and.

[00:02:53] Um, started out as just like getting, getting, uh, certifications as a trainer and kind of building a book of business there. And that blew up for me. It turned into folks reaching out, wanted me to teach their trainers and general managers like how they sell higher ticket packages and, and those kind of things.

[00:03:08] And so I, I kind of went down a, a route with that and long story short, theres ended up, you know, getting some investors together and, and bought my own facilities and opened a few more and kind of built a consulting business there. And then I then transferred into, into SAS sales and. Worked with the company and kind of sell high end hardware for, you know, body composition analysis to health and wellness spaces and, um, doctor's offices and universities.

[00:03:32] And they were out of Australia. I was employee number one. I was, I was running all the sales calls in my living room. And then I would go over and be packing up a equipment machines, sitting in my condo and running it down the elevator and taking it to ups and doing the delivery and onboarding and, you know, kind of built that from, from scratch and, you know, built a, a big team there and closed some really big deals.

[00:03:50] And. Um, and then, uh, COVID happened. And I, I was there for a really long time and, and COVID happened. And back then I was, I was flying around, taking people to dinner, wine, and dying and going to events all the time. And that's, you know, it's predominantly where I was getting business from. And, um, you know, it just, everything changed overnight.

[00:04:08] And I went from making, you know, over half a million dollars to now I'm just on that tiny salary, cause it was heavy commission loaded. Um, and it was, it was, uh, not a good time for me in my life. And that's when I, I wanted to go to something that, you know, wasn't dependent on brick and mortar businesses and something that, you know, was more kinda long term scalable.

[00:04:29] I felt was more solid for me. And that's why I went to like really, really traditional SAS, uh, cuz with that company, it was like SAS plus hardware. It was a little bit of both, but they, they one didn't work without the other. So you had to have the hardware too. Um, and, uh, yeah, and then, so I started kind of going down that road and, and had some success.

[00:04:47] And, um, and then, um, I was unhappy with the company that I was at. It was just kinda a little too early stage. I didn't have a lot of product market fit figured out and, and, um, ended up, you know, leaving while I was. In Turks and CAOs for a trip of my birthday. And , I was forced to get on a meeting while I was like 10:00 AM with toes in the sand.

[00:05:07] And, um, I was on PTO and stuff and I just, you know, ended up, didn't work out there and I took a little bit off about a month and, and I really assessed what I wanted to do. And what I really love to do the most man, is I, I love to help other sellers sell better. And so I found. Alt sales. I met Tito. I was on his podcast, the CEO there, and I circled back with him and he was interested in building out like kind of a, you know, somewhat of an enablement function to work with his clients and like start to, you know, do more sales consulting and help their help, their AEs close more deals.

[00:05:36] So they're getting from this outbound, you know, meetings that setting them. And so I had the opportunity to, you know, look at that and come in and, and build that motion. And so now, you know, I'm fortunate enough to be in a position where every day between that and, and outbound squad at Jason bay, I get to work.

[00:05:49] A bunch of really great sellers and, and still, uh, get to sell myself. And, um, yeah man, that's, uh, that's the quick story of, uh, Ethan and how we got here in five minutes or less. wow. I mean, whew, there's a lot to unpack there, but, um, from selling drugs to selling Cutco Knifes to, you know, doing a little bit of everything to sass to now, you know, running outbound squad and, you know, helping.

[00:06:16] Reps close more deals. Thanks for tuning in to today's episode. If you're enjoying the show, drop us a review on your favorite podcast platform, and we hope that you'll tune in again tomorrow as we are here for you every day, weekends included to help you transform the way you sell.
