[00:00:00] My name is Colin Mitchell and welcome to sales transformation, a daily podcast with the best moments from the most respected people in the sales world. The goal of this show is to give you a daily dose weekends included in 10 minutes or less to help transform the way you sell. I hope you enjoy today's episode.

[00:00:20] And now to David to tell you what you can expect in today's episode.

[00:00:29] Winter is coming. Get ready, cuz it's gonna be a hell of a fight. It's the final cut with Amy Vos. And in the end of these series, she lays down the cards, join Amy and Collin as they discuss the coming of tough times and prepare yourself by taking command of the things that you can control. So tune in and take charge only here in sales transformation.

[00:00:56] So I wanna transition a bit, um, into, you know, you, you started your first business in, in, in a tough time. Um, and there's a lot of talk, obviously that, you know, we're in, or there's coming a recession or there's a downturn. A lot of things have changed. People are getting laid off. You know, people are claiming it's harder to raise money.

[00:01:17] Um, I just wanna get your thoughts on what's going on and, and what, uh, You know, tips or advice you have for folks that are maybe already experiencing a bit of a challenge? I, um, yeah, definitely. Something's happening. I'm I'm certainly not Noam and I, I, I'm not a market maker and I don't know, but certainly something's happening and it doesn't look great.

[00:01:43] And I've been through four different things that have happened. Um, one of the four being a pandemic, and that's not a recession that was a, an anomaly quite frankly, that I hope we never have to see again. And I've never seen a market just completely stop. Um, but I have seen recession. And, um, what I think is interesting is if we're heading into a recession, There is a big, big, big part of our workforce that has never seen this and has no idea what to expect.

[00:02:18] And so there's a big thing that's been happening for years now, where the market has been. So frosty it's been so rich, it's been, um, Promoting the fact that you haven't really had to truly master your craft in sales, you didn't have to be that good to get a really good salary, to get a lot of support, to demand a lot of things.

[00:02:40] And if you didn't like it, you could have a temper tantrum and get another job really easily and hop around those days are going to be numbered. Um, and that's gonna be a very rude awakening for a lot of people with some hard lessons learned. And it's not like I'm so excited about that, but it's gonna happen.

[00:02:57] And so my best advice, because it, this, this history has a way of repeating itself in all aspects. What goes up will come down and it'll go back up again. But these things take time today, like right now is the time to do these things. You control what you can control. That's the work that you do. That's the mindset that you have.

[00:03:21] That's the attitude that you take to the work that you do. That's the not being entitled, not pointing the finger, not being a victim, controlling how you show up every day, the pipeline that you create doing that for the short, the near the long term. These are the things that I preach every day, because I've learned the hard way.

[00:03:39] The first time when I was turned into sales, the reason why I care so much about it is the company that I loved that ultimately went under. And I saw all my friends lose their jobs, me included. We had 98% of our eggs and one big basket. And it was too little too late to try to recover from that. And so.

[00:03:58] The things that I want people to understand is instead of waiting for your SDR to book an appointment for you, or instead of waiting for the leads to be spoon fed, create opportunity, go to the graveyard, figure out for the lost opportunities. What was there, if they were originally interested there, there's gonna be opportunity there.

[00:04:14] You just have to go find it. Dig deep in your territory. Talk to your customers, learn how to have a business conversation. If you can't open a call, how in the world can you close it? And vice versa, lean into. Someone that has something of substance to say, not just a talk track or an objection handle, or the next step in the next rung of the process, your buyers feel that, and it's gonna get really competitive.

[00:04:41] We're gonna see a lot of consolidation and there will be. People that will exit. And I'm not talking about exits that we think about for all the celebration of people making a lot of money. I'm talking about companies won't survive. Yeah. So it's gonna get really, really competitive. You've got to be your best sharp self that's mastering your craft.

[00:05:01] The things that I just described are ways that you can do that. Yeah, those are all great ideas of how to stand out and be different, um, in a place that's gonna be, you know, more competitive in order to survive. Um, so Amy, thanks so much for coming on. Really appreciated the conversation. I'm glad we finally made it happen.

[00:05:27] Any final thoughts and then what is the best way for people to get into your world? Um, final thoughts are this wasn't to be scary. This was just to prepare you for the fact that you do control your own destiny. So if you, um, liked what we talked about or you're like, well, what does this actually look like?

[00:05:48] The best way to find me? So two birds, one stone I'm on LinkedIn. I share a lot of advice. I, the last time I checked, I'm the only Amy Les that's. Also Scott, Lisa and I do Thursday night sales every Thursday where it is an open forum, or we dig really deep into specifics around some of these principles that we've talked about and so much more I'm on Twitter avenue, talent partners.com.

[00:06:11] That's my website. Um, and if you can't find me in those places, I don't know what to tell you. So thank you, Colin. I really appreciate it. It was well worth the time. I, I, I'm glad that this finally worked, so thank you for the grace and understanding of our schedules. Yeah, no, appreciate it.
