Jonathon says to make the first move: “You could have had a first-mover advantage, but you didn't have the first-mover advantage because you didn't learn the other skills around your product.”

Flip things around as Jonathon advises: “You want to flip the things that you're afraid of, or something that you feel is uncomfortable on its head and go after that.”

Jonathon says the obstacle is the way: “The obstacle is the way meaning that there is no alternative. Like it's No, it's the opposite. Like it's okay. If you're feeling bad, the obstacle is fine, you can deal with it. No, no, it is the path, the thing that you're most afraid of is the path.”

Jonathon on the power of word of mouth: “Number one thing is word of mouth. Ironically, not shares, not subscribers, not any of that. It's actually word of mouth. This goes for movies, it goes for products, and it makes total sense.”

[00:00:00] My name is Colin Mitchell and welcome to sales transformation, a daily podcast with the best moments from the most respected people in the sales world. The goal of this show is to give you a daily dose weekends included in 10 minutes or less to help transform the way you sell. I hope you enjoy today's episode.

[00:00:20] And now to David to tell you what you can expect in today's episode.

[00:00:29] Don't go around the obstacle, walk through it. This is Jonathan Kendall's. Final message in the finishing lap of the Jonathan marathon. Jonathan and Colin will be unveiling. What really? Markets, a product above likes, subscribers, downloads, and many more. They will also discuss why you should always make the first move and face obstacles head on.

[00:00:50] So let's raise to the finish line here in sales transformation. So for years, I flew around the country and met the best authors in the world. And there was a professor out of, uh, in university of Pennsylvania as a business professor and Jonah burger. And he wrote a book called contagious, and it's about how things go viral, basically how products go viral, how, how.

[00:01:14] Videos go viral. And he said that the number one thing is word of mouth. Ironically, not shares, not subscribers, not any of that. It's actually word of mouth. This goes for movies. It goes for products and it makes total sense because are you going to trust someone? Uh, randomly, you know, some random influencer on Instagram maybe, but what if your brother tells you, you gotta see this movie, you're probably gonna watch the movie, right?

[00:01:39] So you trust people in your inner circle and hence word of mouth, the power word of mouth, you combine word of mouth with the network effect and things can get real, crazy, real fast. Right? And so that's why product always beats in the long run, better marketing. But if you don't have the first domino. And you, and you don't back it up with, uh, more, uh, easy to, easy to like, to, to use referral links.

[00:02:08] If you're not suggesting people, uh, leave reviews, if you're not suggesting, Hey, you know, if you liked it, you should, uh, talk to your friends. There's ways to amplify it. And if you're not amplifying it, then there might be someone. That two years later, three years later, you could have had first mover advantage, but you didn't have first move of your advantage because you didn't learn the other skills around your product, or you didn't hire a team or you didn't hire the right executive or you didn't, you know, you don't have to necessarily do it all yourselves, but you have to be self aware of knowing you're, you know, knowing what you're not good at and then hire, hire for.

[00:02:46] Um, it's the, the summary is it, you know, business is hard, you gotta know sales, marketing, you gotta know, uh, operations. Gary V says it, high level business ends up just being like an HR director. And really all you're doing is just leading your team and you're talking with you. Yeah. So I mean, virtual worker now, you know, one of my companies has almost 400 employees and it's just, it's just constant.

[00:03:12] It's all about humans. It's either humans or an so. So that the humans can use an SOP at scale. That's it? That's basically all I do is I'm just talking, talking about human stuff or an SOP. Wow, man, Jonathan, it has been fabulous having you on. We covered a lot, tons of value in here. Really appreciate it.

[00:03:31] Any final thoughts and then where's the best place for people to get into your world? Yeah, if you're an entrepreneur. Let's say, you know, you're really high level and you want kind of a full concierge thing. You can go to lead, nurture.com. If you're, uh, you need help in a particular spot, like you need video editing or copywriting, or like one particular thing, you kind of know what your problem is.

[00:03:52] Then go to virtual worker now. Dot com. If you want to follow me and hear me talk like this more often, then, uh, I'm on Instagram at Jonathan dot Kendall. Um, and then one last final thought I would say. Just keeping on the theme of this day is don't be, you gotta flip the things that you're afraid of or something that you feel is uncomfortable on its head and go after that because I met Ryan holiday and that was one of the big moments of my life.

[00:04:20] He wrote the obstacle is the way he goes. The enemy still misses the key, the daily stoic. He's a kind of a modern philosopher and, you know, super high end author, really cool guy. And. Uh, the obstacle is the way I think is probably the, the phrase that changed my life. And the reason why it's so powerful is not because it, it's not, it's not this kind of fun.

[00:04:43] Nice, easy thing. Like, Hey, the obstacle is the way like you can do it, you can get through it. That's not the way to think about it. It's the obstacle. Is the way, meaning that there is no alternative, like it's yeah. It's not like, no, it's okay. The op like it's okay. If you're feeling bad, the obstacle is fine.

[00:05:02] You can deal with it. No, no, no. It is the path. The thing that you're most afraid of is the path. Yeah. And if you. If you do that over and over and over again, where you're, if you're like, ah, I may not really want to do that. Whatever that thing is is probably the thing that you should do most and the faster you check off those things in order.

[00:05:21] Yeah. The sooner you're gonna get to your goal and you're fighting biology. So welcome to the club, you know, you're gonna take days off. You're gonna feel lazy, but the obstacle is the way that's what I would say. Yeah. You gotta seek out the obstacles. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, Jonathan, thanks so much for coming on.
